Informational Resources

About.com Distance Learning: Online High School
Provides the following information:
BestOnlineHighSchools.com
This site is not a ratings site, but rather a resource for information. Per the website: " This site is a service of Degree Press, publisher of college & high school guides. It is the first site on the Internet dedicated solely to providing information about online high schools. Unlike other sites, to be on our site, a school must be accredited or have official recognition from a school district. Visitors can search a directory of schools, but there is no metric to provide comparisons or ratings. "
The site highlights "featured schools," but it is not clear how one gets to be a featured school. Advertising is clearly a large part of this site, so it is logical to assume that these featured schools have paid for the distinction. Also available is a book available for purchase in hard copy or electronic (Kindle) called Complete Guide to Online High Schools: Distance learning options for teens and adults, by Thomas Nixon, Degree Press, 2nd edition, 2012. The text provides information on how to choose an online high school and how to be a successful online learner. It also answers frequently asked questions and provides guidance related to how to choose a prestigious school and avoid diploma mills. It then provides a list of online schools for teens and adults.
